Bio: |
The The Greenville High School Wavaires pride
themselves with a diversity of musical repertoire. These 31 students are
involved in many other school activities at GHS such as theatre, band,
orchestra, sports, art, Spanish Club, National Honor Society,
Environmental Club, and French Club. The group performs for many civic
organizations and churches throughout the State of Ohio. On June 9-13,
2003, the Wavaires performed at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine,
the world's largest cathedral in New York City. They presented an hour
and a half evening concert. The group also performed at Rosa Parks
Performing Arts High school in Paterson, New Jersey where they gave an
hour assembly. The Wavaires also performed at South Street Seaport, the
Statue of Liberty, and at St. Paul's Chapel at Ground Zero. Also, in
December of 2002, the Wavaires were asked to perform for the Governor of
the State of Ohio, the honorable Robert Taft, for the lighting of the
state Christmas tree.
In 2001, the Wavaires were selected to perform at the National Gifted
Convention. This show choir has performed at Disneyland twice and at
Walt Disney World three times. The group has received many honors: Grand
Champions at the Piqua Show Choir Contest 4 times; Grand Champions at
the Kettering Show Choir Contest twice; represented the state of Ohio
twice in the Young American National Performance Choir Contest and Oak
Hill Contest; received straight superior ratings at MusicFest Orlando
and Performing Arts Festival in Florida and won not only as a show choir
but as a concert choir also.
The group performs for many area organizations, clubs, and churches. The
Wavaires are under the direction of Ms. Michele Smith, with choreography
by Barbara Rethlake and accompaniment by Terri Fryman. |
